Somatic Movement Workshop – Journey of Becoming, Between the Sea and the Land

We will work with Developmental Movement Patterns from the origin of life in the uterus/sea – the foetus – birth – baby to walking and dancing on land.

This series of six workshops invite you to an embodiment experience that traces human and non-human animal development patterns. Since our time in our mother’s uterus, movement is our primal sensation, creating our perception of self and the world. As a child grows, they build up their movement stage-by-stage to gain freedom and expression. This development is not necessarily a linear process and each of us today have been made from our own unique journey. By revisiting some of these significant movement learnings, we aim to become aware of other possibilities and also to integrate ourselves for more adaptability and responsiveness. The workshops are designed to nurture your own experiences with enough time for reflection and exchanges with others, which comes after a guided movement exploration based on the theme.

The workshops welcome everyone with any movement experience although the venue may have some access issues. Please contact me to discuss your needs.

These are small group workshops and to keep the continuity, I would like to give the priority to those who can attend the whole series of six workshops. However, where there is availability, the space will be offered to those who can attend as drop-ins. Please register earlier if you would like to attend the whole. If you are interested in some of the dates, please express your interest using the same registration form.

Bring your own yoga mat, blanket, cushions and warm clothing for your comfort. There will be some time lying on the floor. Please also bring writing and drawing materials for movement reflection.

— Some words from the participants in past workshops —

“You had such a gentle way of holding the space which made for a beautiful session. It was so helpful to reconnect to myself and others.”

‘Gently profound. Katsura holds the space with clarity, allowing us to explore with freedom and trust’
Helen Tennison, theatre director

“I found the workshop very powerful. It brought up so much for me, both rich thoughts and deep feelings. It has taken me a good few days to integrate.”
